Sohlbergplassen was designed by architect Carl-Viggo Hølmebakk and was officially opened in 2008. This viewpoint at Atnsjøen lake offers a fantastic view of the Rondane Mountains. This was the spot where Harald Sohlberg painted his famous painting, “Winter’s night in Rondane”, and the architect Hølmebakk wished to create a place along the road where this experience of the Rondane massif was recreated. Sohlbergplassen has been named as one of Norway’s most important post-war buildings. It has won a host of awards, both for design and the use of materials.
